Chevron Seal Beach

When it comes to gas stations upon first glance many seem just the same but there are many big differences that can contribute to your filling up experience. The Chevron station located on 13th and Pacific Coast Highway and has been a favorite station of mine for years. It is rarely overcrowded and is squeaky clean.

The attendants are helpful and it is right on a major thoroughfare, Pacific Coast Highway. The gas prices can be a little steep but saving the stress from driving around in search of a great gas station make it worth it. They do not have a full-fledged mini-mart attached to the gas station so paying for your gas is quick and easy. Fill up at Chevron for a stress free gas station experience.

Colorado Lagoon

The Colorado Lagoon for many years was a polluted uninviting swimming hole that we never viewed as a destination for locals to go and enjoy themselves. That was until they revived the lagoon with a multi-million dollar project to clean the lagoon and restore it back to a livable habitat. Now it is a very nice and beautiful location to walk, bring your kids, or just take a second to enjoy the scenery.

There is a great bridge which will connect you with the other side of the lagoon or you can sit down and stick your feet in and enjoy the cleaner and much more appealing cool water. There is a cool kid’s play area with swings and a jungle Jim and there is even a Long Beach lifeguard headquarters right on the beach as well. The Colorado Lagoon has been revived and now is a great place for a barbecue, walk on the sand, or even to take a dip in and cool off during our warm fall climate. It is now lit up at night with beautiful wooden Christmas trees that line the lagoon, so check it out for a beautiful sight!

Rosie's Dog Beach

Dogs are truly a man and woman’s best friend, and a great way to earn brownie points with your pooch is to take them to the Rosie’s Dog Beach. In between Roycroft and Argonne avenues in Belmont Shore is this pooch haven. Named after Rosie the bulldog, this three acre zone is where you can take your dog for some fun in the sun. There are some rules like only one dog per adult and they must be on a leash as you walk in the water.

This area opened up in 2003 and has been stoking out pups in long beach for almost ten years. So next time you want to do something nice for your dog, take them to Rosie’s dog beach for a guaranteed awesome time for you and your furry friend.

Best Western Golden Sails

Best Western Golden Sails hotel in Long Beach has been around since I have been a little kid. It is located on PCH just past Loynes right next to the water. It is located adjacent to the Cerritos Bahia Marina and across the street from the Marina Pacifica shopping center. The hotel itself is a maroon and brown color which is not that easy on the eyes.

It is in a great location to get to just about anywhere in Long Beach and is a great place for tourist’s to get a good night sleep. There is a huge parking lot with plenty of spaces and overall the area is very clean. I can recommend the Best Western as a decent hotel for tourists coming into Long Beach who want to be in a great location and somewhat affordable prices.

La Bella Fontana Di Napoli

The La Bella Fontana Di Napoli fountain has been a landmark apart of the tight knit Naples community since 1971. The gorgeous fountain is in a park like setting and tries to create an atmosphere that you are truly in Naples, Italy. This beautiful three tiered fountain began to flow in 1971 and has wowed residents and tourists alike. When I first arrived I truly felt as if I was transported to Europe standing in this beautiful mini park with gorgeous fountain flowing water gently downward. The spot is a great place to sit on the benches and take a date. The only drawback was a minor amount of construction going on with large orange cones near the fountain.

Some history on the site: it was donated to the city of Long beach in 1933. There was the old Naples Hotel once stood just to the west of this site and its underground septic was where the fountain stands today. The old septic tank was taken out and in went the fountain. The fountain was dedicated on February 20, 1971, and was eventually renamed “La Bella Fontana di Napoli”.: Give it a look, seriously, it is an absolute work of art and gem of a fountain.

Perks

Perks is a is a small restaurant that is located in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency in downtown Long Beach. Since I live in Long Beach I don’t stay at the hotels but I do go into them and hang out and Perks is becoming one of my favorite hangouts.

The Hyatt Long Beach has an awesome lobby with a really cool light in the middle, and very high windows that look out over Rainbow Harbor. I like to ride my bike down here and grab a drink from Perks and sit in one of the comfy chairs in the lobby before I start my ride back up to where I live in the Bixby Knolls area of Long Beach.

Perks serves a lot of your favorite starbucks drinks and has lots of different breakfast snacks such as bagels, muffins and other pastries. They also have a decent selection of drinks that you can by and I have never seen a line here which is a plus.
