Fresh Brothers

Fresh Brothers Pizza has ten locations throughout California and, after my experience, I would recommend trying any of them! The atmosphere at the Hollywood location was perfect for my friends and I to catch up, meet new people and eat lots and LOTS of pizza. Given that is has been nearly 12 hours since I’ve eaten anything and I am still in a veritable “pizza coma” I would say it was a success.

The parking fills quickly at this location – big surprise, its Hollywood – but I road my bike so I was able to park right in the front. Once inside, I started counting the televisions. Even for a relatively small establishment I was able to count around 15 flat-screened televisions, two of which pointed outside for the waiting patrons to enjoy and to more in the men’s room – even more awesome!

I would like to thank Debbie Goldberg for being the hostess with the mostess! She made sure our relatively large party of ten had plenty to eat and never let our cups run dry. We started with the fresh garlic knots, which were dusted with Parmesan and served with pizza sauce for dipping, and wings. Next came the salads. I dove right into my BBQ Chicken Salad, which was incredibly fresh. It was barbecued chicken breast served over a bed of romaine lettuce, cheddar cheese, corn, zesty onions, black beans, and topped with fried onions – Wow!

Surprisingly, we still had room for the star of the show – the pizza. There were so many different types of pizza but my favorite was a customer pizza my friend Dimple ordered which is topped with sausage, pepperoni and red onions. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll all see the “Dimple Special” on the Fresh Brothers menu.

Nino's Italian Restaurant

Personally, Italian food is my favorite type of food and I am a harsh critic when it comes to Italian restaurants. I recently visited Nino’s Italian restaurant when a craving of spaghetti and meatballs came over me. When I walked in I was greeted and sat in a very quick manner and enjoyed the décor within the restaurant. I ordered a salad and the Penne Bolognese as opposed to my usual spaghetti and meatballs. My salad came out and was delicious with a really creamy caesar dressing.

My penne Bolognese was also very good and hit the spot. The meat sauce was full of flavor and very hearty with the right amount of spice. The pasta was also cooked al dente and exact to my liking. The prices might have been a tad high but for how good the meal was I had no complaints. I have noticed this place has had good and bad publicity but personally I enjoyed myself and my meal. If you are looking for a solid Italian meal in Bixby Knolls head on down to Nino’s!

Costco has been a household name when it has come to buying in bulk and being a great warehouse style shopping center with great prices. Recently, I visited the Costco in Signal Hill on willow and decided to skip the shopping and go straight to their outdoor food area. The line was about 20 people long so there must be something good with their food. Not only was it great food but UNBELIEVABLE prices, prices so low I thought they were a mistake.

I got a huge Hebrew National all beef hotdog with all the fixings for $1.50. This hotdog was meaty, juicy, and had a soft and delicious bun. Drinks were about a buck and a small sundae was under two bucks. The prices are unreal, portions are massive, and the food is very good. Head on over to Costco for a great cheap lunch but beware it can get really busy, for having some of the lowest food prices in town!

Soup Plantation

Soup plantation has always been one of my favorite buffets to eat at. It doesn’t have the same vibe as other buffets and feel like it is much more clean and healthy. After a long day of shopping at the Camarillo outlets we decided to stop off at Soup plantation right off the 101 freeway in Camarillo.

It had the same layout as the other Soup Plantation’s I have visited and the smell of fresh cooked muffins and salad filled my nostrils. You get your salad then you pay for your meal, once you pay for your meal you seat yourself and can go to the hot food bar. They have pastas, pizzas, muffins, and dessert in that area. Overall I think Soup Plantation is delicious and if you do have to go to a buffet, Soup Plantation is the one to go to.

The Yardhouse is a very popular high end chain restaurant that is known for its good food and extensive supply of beer on tap among other things. The Long Beach Yardhouse is located in Shoreline Village right on the harbor and has a great view and a huge patio. Actually they whole place is huge and is usually packed. This is a fun place to party and it is pretty loud so not the greatest place to go on a first date unless you are on a drinking mission and if that is the case then the yard house is perfect for you.

This is a very busy bar and on the weekends you are going to wait. They have a good Happy hour and they have a lot of tvs. Don’t come here hoping to get right in and be served like you are in a fast food restaurant because it is not going to happen. Make sure you head up to the bar and grab a drink and chill out.

On this night I was drinking wine and I was hanging out with a friend and the very back end of the bar and we were watching a game on the television. One thing I love about the Yardhouse is that it is freezing inside so it is a perfect place to go to really “chill out”.

After I had a few glasses of wine I went ahead and ordered the Macaroni and Cheese. It is so good here! They actually call it Mac + Cheese 2 and this is what comes in it. Chicken breast, applewood bacon, wild mushrooms, cheddar, parmesan, campanelle pasta and truffle oil. If you are a fan of mac and cheese then I recommend trying a bowl of this stuff for sure its the bomb!

The result is a fun, high-energy setting for families and sports enthusiasts alike. ‎

Papa John's Pizza

This Papa John’s Pizza is located in a very busy strip mall located on the corner of Long Beach Blvd and Willow St. During the middle of the day you probably won’t get a parking spot right in front of the pizza place so be prepared to walk a bit.

When I went in there I order the chicken strips with ranch dressing. I like the way these tasted and I love dipping those strips in the ranch. It has been awhile since I stopped in for a pizza but that will happen soon enough.

This neighborhood is a bit get and is the in the Wrigley section of Long Beach. When I drove up there last night to guys were making a bunch of noise out in front of the Albertson’s and it looked like they were going to duke it out for a second. Of course I just kept on walking and the fight never happened but you won’t see that at the Albertson’s in Irvine.
