Durty Nelly's

I have been coming to Durty Nelly’s since the 90’s and it has always been a ton of fun. For the most part I come hear to drink on a Friday or Saturday night. There are plenty of hotties around if that is what you are looking for (I was 15 years ago) icon smile Durty Nellys and for the most part the people here are pretty cool. I would have to say a bit better than some of the people you run into at the bars on 17th street.

The bar/restaurant is located right in the middle of a bunch of business so it is a tad hard to find and if you have never been here, you will defiantly have problems getting in. The tendency is to try and get in the door that is closest to where you park your car. The problem is that the only door that is open is off to the side. Actually its not really a problem its just a little strange. When you go you will figure it out.

They have had Karaoke here on the weekends for a really long time and that is fun. I made the mistake of trying to sing Welcome to the jungle on night and that was a total mess but I had a bunch of fun and that is all that matters.

The owner has been here for years and she can run the whole bar area on her own. Her name escapes me which is a shame but she is really nice.

Chipotle Mexican Grill

My go to lunch time meal consistently has been Chipotle Mexican Grill. I recently visited Chipotle on Bristol in Santa Ana and had a great time. I stopped into Chipotle around noon and snuck in before the line was almost out the door. The parking was slim but I managed to snag a spot right next to the entrance. Chipotle has very modern decorations and design which was gave it a very clean and awesome look to the interior.

I ordered the Carnitas burrito with all the fixings. The fixings included their corn salsa, Pico de Gallo, sour cream, guacamole, rice, and beans. I bit into the burrito and it was divine. There were ample portions of meat throughout the burrito and the rice and beans were equally amazing. The price was reasonable for the burrito, drink, and chips which cost me around ten dollars. I highly recommend this Chipotle location for anyone who wants a fast and fresh lunchtime meal!

Vera's Market

Vera’s Market is a hidden gem of a carniceria located on Delta Avenue in Long Beach. I recently had to pick up some Carne Asada and decided Vera’s Market was the place to go. There was a ton of parking and the service was excellent. There was a large variety of meats and cheeses with even some seafood as well.

There are a few cash registers to ring you up and the employees are very helpful. They even sell beer, wine, and produce which makes Vera’s Market a one-stop shop for all your pantry and kitchen needs! I sometimes like going to smaller carnicerias and family owned markets due to the excellent service and higher quality products. Vera’s Market is awesome and I highly recommend stopping by and checking it out!

Burger King

Let’s face it, being hungry really sucks and sometimes you will do anything for a bite to eat. I decided to pull into a Burger King to feed this insatiable hunger I was having. This Burger King was off Carson in Lakewood and had a horribly frustrating parking lot. Once I got my parking spot I walked in and the smell of grease and French fries filled my nostrils. I was greeted by a surprisingly cheery worker who took my order with great efficiency and cheer. I ordered the #1 combo which is a Whopper with Fries. I got my food in record time and sat down in one of the many open tables to start chowing down.

The French fries were fresh and tasted like a dream. Fast food French fries are not always that great but these were divine. The chicken sandwich was unbelievable in my state of extreme hunger and I really enjoyed it. The overall cleanliness of this Burger King was also good and the workers were cleaning away because they were not too busy. Overall, if you are looking for a quick, delicious, and unhealthy meal head on down to Burger King. There are also multiple coupons in our local newspaper for Burger King for some really good discounts on the already cheaply priced food.

The Mirage Cafe

On a lazy Sunday night I decided I wanted to try something unique and different than the monotony of sandwich, burger, and pizza joints littered throughout the city. I drove down Atlantic Avenue and the first place I stopped at was the Mirage Café. It is a Mediterranean restaurant with a cool vibe. We were seated quickly and the waitress was very friendly as well. The owner Mike even came over and told us his recommendations and even brought us some potatoes which were on the house. Our drinks were brought out quickly and were top notch.

I ordered the Chicken Tawook which was seasoned very nicely and was moist and flavorful. My wife ordered the Beef Shwarma which was cooked perfectly and loved the Mediterranean spices and flavors it boasted. Each meal came with rice, salad, pickle slices, hummus, and bread. This was a healthy, delicious, and filling meal that hit the spot. Go to the Mirage Café for a delicious Mediterranean meal any day of the week!

Albertsons are slowly disappearing from the Southern California market place and on a recent trip to San Pedro I found one of the few remaining Albertsons in the Los Angeles area. It was located off 25th street and the parking lot did not have too many spots directly in front of the store. Upon entering, this Albertsons was very bright and open which made finding my groceries a breeze.

This Albertsons also had a Bank of America ATM inside the store which was a definite plus as well. The checkers were very friendly and got me on my way in a reasonable amount of time. The quality of fruits and vegetables were not as good as a Whole Foods but the prices were much better than other competitors. Albertsons is a good grocery store to get your shopping done quickly and at a good price.

Flour Fusion

Lake Elsinore is an awesome town and on a recent trip out there, I stopped at Flour Fusion. Flour Fusion is a cool bakery and coffeehouse located right on Main Street in Lake Elsinore. Right as you step in the smell of fresh brewed coffee and pastries fills your nostrils. It has been family owned and operated since 2007 and has been a local favorite ever since.

I ordered a croissant sandwich which was all around one of the tastiest breakfast items I have had in a long time. The cheese, croissant, and meat were all very fresh and of high quality. To drink I had an espresso that woke me right up and tasted delicious. I highly recommend Flour Fusion as a great eatery located right in the heart of downtown Lake Elsinore.

It’s that wonderful time of year when people start sneezing, coughing, and getting the dreaded flu bug. On a recent trip to find some Nyquil and anything to help my throbbing head I decided to stop at the Walgreens on Redondo and Anaheim. This Walgreens has a new design and has a good sized parking lot.

Right when I walked in it resembled many other Walgreens but the employees were very friendly and happily showed me to the products I needed. There was a wonderful photo area that made it super easy to get high quality prints from your computer and printed out so you can put them in a frame. The grocery items like cereal were priced a little high for my liking and understandable there wasn’t a large selection. There was one thing I noticed this Walgreens didn’t have: alcohol. While that was not something on my list it was definitely something I should note if you are trying to pick up some booze for your Friday night. Overall, this Walgreens had friendly employees and a fast check out which was exactly what I was looking for.

Seal Beach Pavilions

On a recent quick trip to pick up some last minute Thanksgiving supplies I decided to visit Pavilions in Seal Beach on Pacific Coast Highway. The parking lot was understandably packed but the parking lot was easily maneuverable and had an easy entrance and exit. Walking up to the store, the design and color of the Pavilions was very nice and easy on the eyes due to the recent remodel.

The selection was great and prices were very good. It is a must to use your rewards card which you can get on-site if you don’t have one. I got my stuffing and was on my way in a pretty efficient amount of time. They have the self-checkout which was a breeze when you don’t have a lot of groceries. This is a high quality grocery store without the extravagant prices which was very refreshing. Check out Pavilions in Seal Beach for all your holiday cooking needs.
